Yesterday I was going through photos that I had not yet edited and found this one of the Murphy Building in Fountain Square.
Initially built in the mid-1880s and 1920s, it is comprised of two buildings, one of which was a vaudeville movie house. In 1951 the G.C. Murphy Company purchased both structures and combined them into one 57,000 square foot retail building. The Murphy Store closed in 1998. Today the building houses the Murphy Arts Center, with 27 tenants and three restaurants.
