Tar Heel Pie
Today was the first time I made Tar Heel Pie, and I must say it was excellent! It was billed as a "sensation" in a 1953 magazine. It's like a fudge, chewy brownie in a pie shell. It was originally called "brownie pie" but got the name "Tar Heel Pie" in the 50s. Supposedly a secretary at a postcard factory in North Caroline gave it that name. A postcard with a picture of the pie was sent out, and the name stuck.
You can't tell from my photo, but the bottom layer is toasted pecans.
I will have to ride my bike farther tomorrow!
