We just learned that Patty Durkes passed away on November 19. 2012. She was a long time family friend. When I was growing up, our families got together every Easter and took a family portrait. As you can see, it snowed on Easter in 1962! She's the taller one in front of the door.
Patty and I were the oldest of our siblings. We felt like we were the "mature ones" dealing with our younger siblings.
Thanks to Patty, I never smoked. One day, when I was about 8, she and I took one of the cigarettes and matches from Peg, her mom, behind her back. We went to our backyard behind the lilac bush. I took a few puffs and nearly choked to death. Ha ha. I never smoked again!
For anyone who knew her and would like to make a contribution in her memory, send it to: Hope Hospice, Inc.
RIP Patty. You will be missed!
