A Blast from the Past
This week my high school best friend, John Merkert, was in town for a few days. We recently reconnected via Facebook. He and his wife live in Littleton, Colorado, and we hadn't seen each other for almost 40 years. It worked out that he was able to have dinner with Tony and me at our house!
It's not every day that an old friend of 40+ years has dinner with us, so I cooked up something I thought he'd enjoy: Filet Mignon Wrapped with Proscuitto, Baked Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Asparagus, and homemade vanilla frozen custard like the kind we used to get at Rochester's Flagpole Drive-In!
But the best part was reminiscing about the good ole days, including old girlfriends, driving around in my 1963 Buick Skylark Convertible, camping, sitting under the railroad bridge near his house with the train running over our heads (the Erie Lackawanna Railroad), and the conniption fits we used to give our parents, mostly his mom. Some of the things we did they never knew about, fortunately.
I'm looking forward to our next visit!
Tony took this photo of us. It's followed by a couple of shots from high school.
